The visualization is cool- and there’s a real idea behind it, with a small caveat.
The planets do orbit in a mostly flat plane around the Sun, but the Sun itself is moving as it orbits the Milky Way at ~220 km/s.
So when you combine:
- planets circling the Sun
- the Sun racing through the galaxy
…the paths trace a helical (corkscrew-like) motion through space. That’s why it looks like a DNA strand.
It’s not a literal DNA shape, but a helix caused by reference frames. Still mind-bending, our entire solar system is surfing through the galaxy while everything keeps orbiting like normal 🧬🚀
Big or small, everything in space is circling around something. Perhaps the Milky Way is also circling around something bigger. And at the same time, altogether they move fast to somewhere else. Where? We don’t know. Interesting.
